Back to School: Moving into the College Dorm

Air Van Moving is proud to be  the official mover of The University of Washington and Boise State.

Moving Day is coming up and there are lots of things to keep in mind when it comes to moving into a dorm.

Here are 10 MUST Haves on Move-in Day!

  1. Bed Linens (Twin XL) and your favorite pillow(s)
  2. Shower Caddy:  Nothing helps you work up a sweat more than moving
  3. Alarm clock or Cell Phone with alarm clock function
  4. Mini-Fridge to keep ice-cold refreshments nearby
  5. Hangers:  Organization is key in small places
  6. Dry-Erase Board to hang on your door.  Great place to leave messages.
  7. Picture Frames:  A little bit of home for your dorm
  8. Small Fan to keep you cool on move-in day
  9. iPod for entertainment after all the work is complete
  10. Speakers or headphones for your iPod

Below are a few details about what is/isn’t allowed at UW and Boise State.

University of Washington Student Housing:

Allowed Appliances include, but are not limited to:

  • Refrigerators (under 4.4 cubic feet)
  • Blenders and mixers
  • Hot-air popcorn poppers
  • Hotpots and coffee pots (placed on noncombustible surfaces such as ceramic tile)
  • Microwave ovens (one per room, 700-watt maximum)
  • Rice cookers
  • Panini/sandwich-type grills (with enclosed coils)
  • Compact fluorescent or LED task lighting

Prohibited Appliances include, but are not limited to:

  • Halogen torchieres
  • Space heaters
  • Air conditioners
  • All open-flame or open-coil appliances (e.g., fondue pots, toasters, toaster ovens)
  • 5-Light Floor Lamps (more information)
  • Full-size appliances
  • Waterbeds

Refrigerators and Microwaves available for rent: Collegiate Concepts, Inc. (CCI)

Boise State Student Housing:

Acceptable Appliances, Furnishings and Items-
Appliances with closed coil elements (coffee pots, hot pots, and hot air poppers)
Bedding (standard twin sized sheets, pillows, etc.)
Computers
Dishes and utensils
Fans
Hair dryers
Irons for clothing (with self shut off preferred)
Lamps (excluding halogen lights)
Mini refrigerators (no larger than 4.2 cubic ft)
Microwaves (up to 700-800 watts)
Personal hygiene devices
Posters
Stereos and other audio equipment
TVs and other visual equipment

Prohibited Appliances, Furnishings and Items-
Due to fire concerns/regulations, the following items are not allowed in residence hall rooms/suites, hallways, bathrooms or other common areas:
Any item with an open flame or that burns (candles, stenson burners, incense, etc)
Appliances with exposed heating elements (toasters, toaster ovens, broilers, hot plates, etc.)
Appliances that are damaged (frayed cords, bent plugs, broken safety handles/legs, etc)
Electric skillets
Fog machines
Halogen lamps/lights
Incense
Liquid fuel
Personal mattresses
Personal upholstered furniture of any kind
Power tools
Space heaters
Water beds
Weapons (guns, knives, paintball machines, hunting devices, brass knuckles, etc)
Window air conditioning units

Apple Cup 2009 – Go Huskies!

As the Official Mover of the University of Washington Huskies Athletics, we are proud of our 2009 Apple Cup winners.  Washington had their first shut out in 45 years against long-time rival Washington State with an incredible score of 30-0.  We are proud!
